Google Voice will allow you text online, through your Google number, even when your phone dies. If you don’t like listening to voicemail, Google Voice will provide written transcripts of any message left at your GV number, with a color indicator showing how accurate the text to voice translation is.

For Voice for Google Workspace accounts managed by your work or school, text messaging is available only in the US. You can send text messages using your Google Voice number for free to US and Canadian numbers (excluding the US territories of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands).
Then, can I send text messages from Google Voice to my phone?
It’s an inconvenient kluge, but it works. First, log into Google Voice and configure it to forward text messages to your cell phone. When someone sends a text message to your Google Voice number, you’ll receive the text on your phone–but not from the recipient’s phone number.
Why can’t I text without a Google Voice number?
If you don’t have a Google Voice number, Voice doesn’t support text messaging. You can upgrade your Google Voice account for free. If you recently paid to move your Voice number, your texts might not work until 5 business days after your transfer finishes. You can check the status of your number porting.
Is Google Voice free to use?
One of the great things about Google Voice is that it’s extremely affordable. It’s a free service to sign up for, and as long as you use it to communicate between your Google Voice number and other U. Numbers, it’s totally free to place calls and send text messages.

You can then start making calls from your phone or your computer. You can also use the service to send and receive text messages. When you get a voicemail in Google Voice, you’ll be able to access it in the app and get a transcript (and recording) of it sent to your e-mail.
Just because you don’t have an Android phone or Black. Berry (or even, unofficially, an i. Phone) doesn’t mean you can’t text from your cellphone using your Google Voice number. In fact, you can use Google Voice SMS capabilities on any phone.
Why can’t I send more than one message on Google Voice?
If you send many text messages in a short period, or recipients mark your messages as spam, Voice may temporarily restrict you from sending more messages. Due to carrier limitations and to protect against spam, Google Voice messaging is intended only for 1:1, personal conversations.
