After numerous Windows 8 installations going back and forth between 7 and 8 I’ve finally decided to stay with Windows 8.1 Pro (x86). It feels lighter on the resources and even the gaming performance seems to have increased in relation to Windows 7 Ultimate.

If your PC came with Windows 8.1, installing the 32bit version of 8.1 would be the most efficient operating system you could load on that. However, that would mean backing up your data and clean installing that operating system – it is a big job.

I updated my Acer laptop to Win 8.1 from Win 7 and it all works fine. Yes, Windows 8.1 is much more effiecient, especially after the most recent update.
