You only have an option to change the display name of your account and not the Skype name. The Skype name is the username you created when you first joined Skype, other than your email address or phone number. If you are using an email address or phone number when signing in on Skype, then you have a default Skype name that has the word “ live:” .
This begs the question “Can I create a custom name for my Skype account?”
When Skype accounts were migrated to Microsoft October last year, the option to create a custom Skype name is no longer available. The alternative options you have would be to either change your display name or create a new Skype account using an email address which will then be called a Microsoft account.
