As you may already know, when creating a Microsoft Teams, you can choose the privacy settings to be: Private means only the members added will be able to join the Teams, while Public means that anyone with the link to the Teams can join the fun. Org-wide is pretty self explanatory :simple_smile:.

At Ignite (November 4th till 8th 2019) Microsoft announced the general availability of private channels within Microsoft Teams. This is the top requested feature in the Teams User Voice for a long time. What is a private channel? Private Channels are channels that only specific members within a team can see and participate in.

Private Microsoft Teams Private Teams are permission-based, which means that users can join only after the team owner lets them in. Users cannot see private Teams when they navigate to the “Join or create a team “inside Microsoft Teams. There are a few possible ways how users can join a private team: Team owners can add them as members.

This of course begs the inquiry “What is a private channel in Microsoft Teams?”

Private channels in Microsoft Teams create focused spaces for collaboration within your teams. Only the users on the team who are owners or members of the private channel can access the channel. Anyone, including guests, can be added as a member of a private channel as long as they are already members of the team.
