Ubuntu server, yes. Linux “mint” no, as SAM pointed out, linux “mint” is a desktop system and should not be used as a file server. Was this post helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
Since Ubuntu server doesn’t have a GUI, a server version of Mint would be pointless- it would essentially be Ubuntu server edition. You can use Mint as a server, but if what you want is truly a server I would recommend a headless system running Ubuntu server.
Can I use mint as a server distro?
, and fair enough. Well then, if you get paid for putting a pretty GUI on a server, no reason you couldn’t use Mint. With the Ubuntu base it has access to all the same packages as the server variant. Just be aware that as a desktop distro it installs a whole lot of applications and services/daemons that you’ll never need on a server.
Is Linux Mint Ubuntu based?
Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution whose goal is to provide a classic desktop experience with many convenient, custom tools and optional out-of-the-box multimedia support. It also adds a custom desktop and menus, several unique configuration tools, and a web-based package installation interface.
Linux Mint is the ideal Linux distribution for new and seasoned Linux users alike being based on Ubuntu whilst following its own release cadence. Linux Mint also developer a number of apps, maybe of which are portable enough to be used on other Linux distros and desktop environments.
My answer is Linux Mint is arguably the most popular operating system among personal computer users after Ubuntu and it is praised for being a more reliable distro than its parent OS. This is due to the fact that its focus is to provide a classic desktop that is convenient to use and filled with multimedia support and nifty tools straight out of the box.
What is the difference between Ubuntu and mint?
It’s what Mint is based on (indirectly. Mint is based on Ubuntu and Ubuntu is based on Debian) so if you’re familiar with Mint you won’t have to relearn a new version of Linux. It’s more lightweight than Mint and more server oriented.
What are the minimum requirements for Linux Mint?
Set permissions on the all system files. Creating the user accounts, and finally. Creating configuration files.
What is the best Linux server to use?
As far as they go, I would recommend Ubuntu server as the most popular, hence the one with the most support, tutorials etc. I administer mine over the network using webmin which gives you an interface accessible via a web browser. Re: Linux Mint as a server? Re: Linux Mint as a server? I’ve been doing “Servers” for a long time loooooonnnggg time.
