The orientation of Google Maps is always the same when you’re browsing on a computer. North is on the top of the map, and south is on the bottom. The left will always be west, and the right is always east. Anything directly above the location you’re browsing is always to the location’s north.
True North on Google Maps is not shown, but for a normal Mercator projection, grid north and true north will coincide and it will follow any vertical line (or meridian) to the top of the map.

How do you point north on Google Maps on Android?
To do this, tap the compass icon in the top-right corner of the Google Maps map view. Your map position will move, with the icon updating to show that you’re pointing north.
Slide the Keep Map North Up button to the On position. It will turn blue. Now, when you open the Google Maps app, the map will be in the north-facing position.
Is the view north up or south up on Google Earth?

To switch between forward-is-up and north-is-up, simply tap the red/white compass needle in the upper left hand corner of the screen. On the updated maps, where the red/white compass icon is no longer there, goto settings and turn off “North is always up’ Highly active question.
