The reason after effects is unreasonably slow is because its software from the 90s and hasnt really been upgraded to modern standards. I can take the same clip in 4k and get consistent caching and real time playback in Silohuette then load the same clip and Adobe after effects chokes along taking a few seconds to load each frame.
Why does after effects run so slow on my computer?
If you run applications other than those with which After Effects shares a memory pool, and you don’t allocate adequate memory to other applications, performance can be greatly reduced when the operating system swaps RAM to the hard disk. Stop or pause resource-intensive operations in other applications, such as video previews in Adobe Bridge.
When After Effects displays the Composition, Layer, and Footage panels at magnifications greater than 100%, screen redraw speed decreases. (See Zoom an image for preview .).
Why does after effects take so long to load?
After Effects must use memory and processor resources to update open panels, which may slow the work that you are doing in another panel. Create a region of interest. If you are working on a small part of your composition, limit which portion of the composition is rendered to the screen during previews. See Region of interest (ROI).
Make sure that you’ve installed the current version of After Effects, including any available updates. To check for and install updates, choose Help > Updates. Make sure that you’ve installed the latest versions of drivers and plug-ins, especially video card drivers.
Why is my song so slow?
In simple terms, your computer can’t process the visuals fast enough, so it is slowing the song down to match the speed of how fast it is processing. In your composition window, while rendering/playing back, you’ll see a green var start to form on top.
How do I fix audio dropout and stutter?
Audio slowing down rather than cutting out is considered a fix of the stutter and dropout problem. So stock up on holy water.
My advice, in the settings (Edit -> Preferences -> Previews) there is an option to disable sub-realtime audio playback, if playback gets too slow it just doesnt do audio. Enable that and get used to RAM previewing sections that you want to hear.
What does the Green Bar on the audio output mean?
These are the frames that are “rendered” once the green bar has reached the end of your composition, it will repeat and playback with the audio in sync. For lack of a better metaphor, it’s basically buffering, you need after effects to load all the visual data before playback.
