Edge does not block you from using Google Search or downloading Google Chrome. In fact, Chrome is my default on all my Windows 10 boxes.
This of course begs the inquiry “Is Microsoft’s Edge trying to push people away from chrome?”
Microsoft’s latest attempt to push people away from Chrome is pretty passive aggressive. As spotted by Windows Latest, Microsoft Edge, the default browser provided with Windows 10 and Windows 11, now triggers a pop-up trying to keep users on the Edge browser instead of jumping on board with Google.
I used Edge to download Chrome with no problems. In fact, that was the first thing I did with Edge. Chrome installed and works fine. Report abuse Report abuse.
The reason for the warning is that Microsoft Edge doesn’t integrate with the Safe Browsing protections Google uses to remove threats—so when an extension presents a risk, Google can’t act in the same way to protect users.
Is it possible to download Microsoft Edge through Internet Explorer?
Earlier, I was able to download Microsoft Edge through Internet Explorer. Additionally, when accessing Internet Explorer to download Chrome the same thing happened as Microsoft Edge where even when I clicked ‘download’, no response. If anyone knows what the issue is, it would be great if you could share your thoughts! This thread is locked.

Probably McAfee, as edge does not block anything. It may also relate to a new feature in win 10 called signed driver enforcement which is a security feature that prevent you from downloading unsigned (and possibly dangerous) software.
