It has its uses. If you are a gamer, stick with windows though. Linux distros are generally more customizable and thats why ppl like it. You could install an OS specifically for being a media center or cracking passwords or programming. Oh alright, Windows is for me then., direct X (And gaming in general). Better performance on “bad/old” PCs.
So, why do people use Linux instead of Windows?
Genuinely wondering, don’t know a lot about Linux other than it’s what we used in middle school. At the end of the day, the Linux community wants to make software, and Microsoft wants to make money . When those goals are opposed, Linux becomes the better choice. I love this, such a simple analogy and so true.
There are many uses to Linux, and there are many pros and cons. Linux, for a “basic” idea, is a kernel (the software that controls hardware and allows software to run), and is layered with applications from the GNU project to form a basic, genuinely-free, Unix-like OS. This is will be a barebones, command-line driven base for everything else.
Is windows or Linux better for gaming?
The 2 certainly cater to generally different aesthetics.. You can’t really match linux’s beautiful pixel perfect console programs with windows, but in terms of polished fancier window decorations windows just has a better selection And what happens when I open up Firefox or Thunderbird or Pidgin, etc?
Is dual booting Linux worth it?
Otherwise Ubuntu (plus variants) also let you easily set up dual boot in their installer. If you’re paranoid about Windows (or nonfree programs on Windows) tempering with your Linux system, you may want to do a full partition encryption before install. Dual booting isn’t worth.
Ditching Windows isn’t really an option. Are there any distros which are worth using as a dual boot? All I really do is play games and write third-rate code. Try Linux in a virtual machine first, and use it for everything that you can, and try not to switch back to windows if you have issues.
Is dual booting a Windows 10 VM worth it?
Dual booting is a headache when Windows overwrites your boot configuration. A VM is convenient for getting Office and skype, but I’d only want a Windows 7 VM. Windows 10 isn’t stable enough. I’d virtualize Windows XP just to run some old games. I’ve gotten to the point where it’s only useful when you need to retain windows for some reason.
Can GRUB root a dual boot Ubuntu?
I dual booted Ubuntu and Windows 10 (Beta). GRUB managed to root itself in. I tried uninstalling it through multiple means but I never could get it out. This experience is the only thing keeping me from doing it again. I should clarify that I had already uninstalled Ubuntu and deleted it’s partition using a guide.
